When I was a kid, I would envision myself dying in various ways and I would play out in my mind my funeral and my family's life afterward. Looking back upon it, I was a lot closer to committing suicide than I thought I was at the time. I'd like to say that religion saved me but unfortunately my faith in God and Salvation came later in life.

Two basic reasons I didn't off myself:
1. The love for my family. I just couldn't do that to them. Suicide is probably the most selfish thing a person can do. Perhaps that's why God deals with it so stringently. It breaks at least 3 commandments. Thou Shalt have no other Gods before me(you're putting yourself before God), Thou Shalt Not Kill, and Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother.

2. I always wanted to die heroically. In battle or defending some worthy cause or another. In my mind I put off the day of my demise until a worthy occasion presented itself. And in the interim, I grew a strong religious base and no longer consider suicide as anything other than an abomination.

In my current neighborhood, there have been two teenage suicides in the past year. That's some freaky stuff.

What I have always hated is the chicks who go home, take a bunch of shit, call someone like me to tell me what they have done and I have to go get in the car, drive my ass over to their crib, get them in the car and to the emergence room, then, while they are pumping the stomach, have to talk to about ten cops about my relationship, etc.
They had no intention of committing the Big One. Just a way to get attention. Always wondered what one would do if they took the shit, got really fucked up, picked up the phone and the line was dead! Guess they would be, too.
When I hear of someone offing himself with 00 twelve guage buckshot to the temple or bailing off a 20 story building before the news crews show up, we have to assume Dude was serious.
I was with this one chick once and got sick of her shit. Told her it was a done deal. There were about 3 other people at the apartment at the time. She came out of the bathroom, eyes all red from crying and looked at me and said, "Are you sure this is the end?" I said, "Yup!" She took a razor blade and slashed her wrist. I looked at her, went and got a towel, tossed it to her and said, "Wrap this around your wrist. I don't want blood everywhere." Then I sat down on the bed. After a few minutes she got up and went to the living room making it known what she had done. Immediately everyone got in the car and took her to the ER. We were all stoned to the gills, BTW. Now we are in the ER, the cops come and we have to explain, while we are totally fucked up, that she was just out of the mental hospital and as soon as we got her back she was on a return visit. We are lucky we weren't busted right there.
Bet you are asking yourself, Why does this dude go out with girls like this?
That, of course, is simple. I am a dumbfuck! Who the hell else would go out with me?

I think I'm the wrong guy to ask about that, since I tend to believe that religion really is the opiate of the masses. Not only does it keep poor people from overthrowing their oppressors, maybe it also keeps them from offing themselves?

I buy that line of reasoning, but it'd be better to talk to a priest about it. I've only spoken to a couple of coroners!!

Warren, go back and read the entirety of the thread and you'll see where I've gotten my ideas on this matter.

In the meantime, if you have something concrete at your disposal with which you might refute somebody's points then offer it up for public perusal, otherwise shut the fuck up. How easy is it to just come blustering in here with "What? You're crazy!! Wheredja get that??" and then just high tail it outta here without ever saying a damn thing of substance in counterpoint...

Never have I viewed a more disturbing thread than this one.

I'm fed up with hearing of people who say they're going to commit suicide. I'm sick of the people who see that as their only way out of their problems, as opposed to cutting expences to get out of debt, loosing weight, leaving that person who you can't live without, etc...

If it is that painful to go on, just do it, and quit whining for sympathy. Leave life for those who wish to live

van - suicide is in no way the enclave of the wealthy. plenty of non 'wealthy' people choose that route, and a brief note to all of you fucknuts who are talking out of your asses in this thread, until you feel like you can't deal with the shit of your life, for even a minute more, until you feel you have no support around you, until you've actually been there yourselves, or close to someone who has considered taking the easy option out, seriously, shut the fuck up.

(ps: and for the record, gbg - you're spot on there, your post equals my thoughts almost exact)
